Individual counselling

Professional counselling offers you the opportunity to explore aspects of yourself and your life in a safe space with a qualified therapist. Your counsellor works with you to support your mental health and wellbeing. The counselling process will enhance your self-understanding, helping you to overcome your personal difficulties and to make appropriate changes to your life.

Counsellors listen, empathise, encourage and help to empower their clients. The therapeutic relationship between counsellor and client is one of collaboration. You will be heard, understood, respected, and accepted without judgement.

Counselling is a profession with a strong evidence base. Counsellors use empirically supported interventions and specialised interpersonal skills to facilitate change and empower clients.

What to expect

Your initial counselling session will be an opportunity for you and your therapist to get to know each other and for you to see if your therapist is going to be a good fit for you. The best predictor of successful therapy is a strong therapeutic relationship between you and your therapist. This  healthy rapport is built  over time, but in the first session your therapist will try to gain a good understanding of what has brought you to counselling, and what you want to get out of future sessions. From here you and your counsellor will devise a plan and then the deeper work will begin.
